Ever since I was a young child I dreamt about becoming a dog trainer. I have worked with many different breeds, I currently own 2 Australian Shepherds whom I am proud to say has qualified for Crufts for life. Koda and Navy are now training towards agility & Scent hurdles , I have many years of hands on experience, I have discovered that I have a innate talent for understanding and communicating with canines. I have recently undertook the scent hurdles UK instructor course, this is a very new and exciting dog sport that has come to the UK. I have also gained other qualifications including a diploma in dog behaviour, Scent work trainer , scent hurdles instructor , and canine body language, level 3 emergency first aid at work, ProTraining pet first aid instructor. I am living the dream to help dogs and owners to have skills for modern life , and use modern training techniques for the dogs of the future.

Myself and puppy Rottweiler Douglas joined the wonderful trainer Kay in August . The reason we joined is because I met a wonderfully behaved dog at the seafront with its owner who said the dog was so well behaved as had been to top dog I immediately telephoned Kay when I got home as I wanted Douglas to be as well mannered . To be fair I feel it was myself that required training and Kay facilitated that and continues to do so Kay has been an absolute rock through difficult times and has been accommodating through changes and has adapted to our needs . Kay is very calm and goes without say most talented and it is evident that ALL puppies and dogs that attend adore her as do we humans . Top dog feels like an exclusive community and Douglas and I love attending . Douglas was quite a handful as puppies can be but because of his size could be very overbearing to say the least !!! However as his training has progressed he has made to my mind made great progress and I feel very proud of his behaviour . Kay teaches only positive reinforcement and Douglas thrives on this . Kay works endlessly to enlighten us all on diet , enrichment as well as teaching us humans how to help us reach our puppies and dogs best potential . It is most evident that this is not a job for Kay but a true vocation .Kay ensures each puppy /dog is catered for their uniqueness therefore classes are not turning out robots but happy individual dogs with their own personalities remaining in tact. We will always remain with Kay I don’t believe training will cease but is an ongoing transition . I do not think Douglas would be the puppy he is today without the patience of Kay and all other attendees and their dogs /puppies , there is lots of support within the groups . I think also the tentatively delivered training I have learnt from Kay I have been able to pass onto my two small grandchildren who manage a rather large Douglas most capably and there is mutual respect again this I feel is a huge achievement ! I often ponder on how I would have managed with the size he is now without Kay’s and other dogs and their owners patience , I believe had Douglas and I not attended the story may have been very different !!! I would recommend Top dog and Kay’s style of training to anyone and I believe one has to think about how you would like your puppy to be as an adult and our journey with Kay will continue .
Top Dog has helped me with my headstrong pup and between the advice, traing tools and 1-to-1 sessions we have turned him into a calm and confident dog who is enjoying his weekly manners and scent classes. I full recommend Top Dog to everyone, whether you feel your Dog needs training or not. Kay has helped me to see that even the small wins are to be celebrated and that persistence truly pays off.
Absolutely brilliant training. Felt very overwhelmed after adopting our alsation rottie(?) mix Nala, the classes are great, Kay still finds time to interact with all the dogs and answer any questions we have, all the fellow class mates are welcoming and we all have a great supportive atmosphere. I really appreciate how Kay doesn't make training sound like it should always be straightforward and easy, puppies can be hard work, and its good to have strong support to celebrate all the wins, and hear experiences from the other owners about how hard work pays off, its so satifying when you hit that breakthrough with training. It takes a village to raise a kid, but it takes Top Dog to raise a puppy!
I highly recommend Top Dog. Kay is a fantastic trainer, very patient, supportive and highly knowledgeable. The classes are fun and friendly.
Alfie (my Jack Russell Cross) has, and still is making fantastic progress.
We have learnt many tricks such as stretch, middle, play dead and sit pretty. I'm currently working on getting Alfie to skip rope with me.
I have been given many tools to get Alfie to heal and his recall is progressing very well. I have also learnt a lot about how to read my Alfie as well as other dogs.
I could waffle on, but basically very very good classes, come along you won't regret it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I currently attend the Tuesday Good Manners class with my XL Bully, Willow, and the Sunday Good Manners class with my Staffy cross puppy, Harley — and I can’t recommend Top Dog Training Academy enough!
Willow originally started with one-to-one sessions to help with muzzle training and to build her confidence. Kay worked closely with us on refocusing, engagement, and staying calm. Thanks to her support and knowledge, Willow is now comfortable joining group classes with other dogs, and we’re continuing to work on reducing distractions and improving her calmness around others. The progress she’s made is incredible!
Harley has been going to classes since she was just 12 weeks old and is now a confident 7-month-old pup. The structured socialisation and desensitisation in a calm, controlled environment has helped her become the friendly, well-balanced dog she is growing into.
Kay is patient, supportive, and really understands how to bring out the best in each dog. Both of my dogs absolutely love going — their excitement says it all!
If you’re looking for a professional, positive, and welcoming dog training school, I highly recommend Top Dog Training Academy. It’s made such a difference to both of my dogs and to our day-to-day life together.
I could not be happier with Top Dog! My dog, Ella, is a rescue who has some challenges associated with her background. I have been taking her to Top Dog classes from almost day one, and I can honestly say that she is thriving! Ella has gone from being a scared, reactive dog, incapable of being within a quarter-mile of other dogs without having a meltdown, to a confident dog who participates in group classes twice a week. With the support of Kay and the wonderful community she has created, Ella and I have built a strong, trusting relationship, which forms the foundation for everything else we do. Top Dog lessons are so much more than obedience classes - there is a real focus on the physical and mental wellbeing of each dog, and a true appreciation that dogs are not robots, and that every dog is different, so not every method will work for every dog... As Kay says, "train the dog in front of you". Even within group lessons, each person receives personalised teaching, tailored specifically to helping their own dog succeed, made possible because Kay gets to know each dog individually, and builds a fantastic relationship with each dog, getting to know their background and their personality (and the dogs love her! Honestly, you should see the dogs' reactions when Kay arrives to class - she has a real fanclub!). In addition to Good Manners classes, we also attend Scent Detection classes. Initially these were recommended to us as a way to help Ella learn to slow down and actually interact with her environment rather than just react to it, and I can't believe how much they have helped (bonus points, Ella loves it!) We travel all over the place with our classes, learning not only the content of the lesson itself, but also how to be and behave in the real world. Top Dog is more than just a class, it is a community - we celebrate each others wins, support each others difficulties, and work together to give our dogs the best possible chance of success.
Hi am looking at starting dog training for my puppy at the end of November when she is able to go out . Winnie is a French bulldog.
Many Thanks

Hi just wondering how much it is for puppy training
Me and my dog attend Good Manners Group. It’s a lovely group. Very friendly, informative, supportive and effective. Would definitely recommend.
We started training for Scent Hurdles last month and not only is it great fun it helps to focus my dog's energy. Both Kay and Bev are professional in all of the classes they offer.
I've been training with Top Dog for 18 months to help my dog achieve calmness. We do the Good Manners class and the improvement has been incredible! The patience shown towards both me and my dog is second to none. I have recommended Kay and Bev to all of my colleagues.
Amazing and professional training with expert attention to detail and caring for every type of breed.
